Message 1.) Search for posts by member Pats300ZX for exterior detailing.

2.) Check out Autopia.org for more in-depth detailing procedures.

3.) Check out Jodecy's guide to cleaning engine bays... it's somewhere.

I'm not very well versed in car detailing, however, I'll tell you what I use if it matters any.

For the exterior, I use a Mothers clay bar (once is enough to last for many months/years so long as you continually keep the exterior clean). Then I use Meguires NXT synthetic poly. wax, followed by a coat of S100 (available at your local Harley shop).

For plastic/vinyl interior dash parts, I use Meguires "Natural Shine Vinyl and Rubber Protectant". I've had good luck with it, as it doesn't leave such a greasy/shiny mess like Armor All.

Now on to the part that I know too well... you can check my post history for some pictures and a general description of how to clean a dirty engine bay. Member "Jodecy" (I think) has a good write up on sprucing up the engine bay as well, if you search. Mine still had the original waxy cosmoline all over everything, so I tried GooGone, which I had GREAT luck with. It's safe on just about any material under the hood, too. My weapons of choice were a set of small detailing brushes: one stainless steel brush, one brass brush and a nylon brush which I recommend for ANYTHING non-metallic, as it doesn't scratch. Also, a ton of rags, paper towels, GooGone, Automotive simple green and a spray bottle for water (good for rinsing off the GooGone and simple green without harming electrical components). You can check out a small slideshow of my progress from start to finish by clicking . HERE. . It is a constant work-in-progress =).

One thing that made a BIG difference, that many people don't think of is this: When I had my plenum off, I carefully removed ALL of the old electrical tape I could manage from the old harness under the hood, including the battery harness, etc. I then re-wrapped it with 3M-super 33+ vinyl tape. Because my wire harness was still in great shape, but dirty... it made sense to do, and finished the look of everything IMO. Anyhow, hope this helped a little.
